Wash less, air more

Many garments need airing rather than washing after every wear. Hang them in moving air away from harsh sun, then return them to storage once completely dry.

When washing is necessary, test colourfastness and begin with the gentlest method appropriate to the fibre and construction.

Give every piece the right support

Fold heavy knits so their shoulders do not stretch. Use broad, padded hangers for tailored garments and avoid thin wire hangers that concentrate pressure.

Store leather and suede where air can circulate. Plastic covers may trap moisture; a clean cotton cover is usually kinder.

Repair before the fault travels

A loose button, small opening in a seam or lifting hem is easiest to address early. Thoughtful repairs are part of a garment’s continuing history, not a reason to hide it away.
